Genting Highlands
The hill resort of Resorts World Genting is at an average elevation of 1,740 meters within the Titiwangsa Mountains on the border between the states of Pahang and Selangor of Malaysia. Resorts World Genting is operated by Genting Malaysia Berhad, which also operates Awana chain of resorts & hotels.
It is easily accessible by car from Kuala Lumpur in one hour, or also accessible by a cable car called the Genting Skyway which at its opening, was the world’s fastest and South East Asia’s longest gondola lift.
To get the facts straight, The Genting Highlands is not just a theme park. It includes the only legal land-based casino, the Casino de Genting; five hotels, including the eye-catching First World hotel which held the Guinness World of Records as the largest hotel in the world for a period of time, with a total of 6,118 rooms.
Dining offers with different cuisines; nightlife; and performance venues that could hold events and concerts of international and local stars; The Genting indoor and outdoor theme parks, and the Genting Skyway.
Whew! Children, gamblers, businessmen, stars, foodies, families and lonely people unite in a place where fun is spelled in capital letters in a spring like climate, sometimes reaching as low as 10 degrees Celsius, you can actually see the fog and sometimes, clouds. Whichever you prefer, it’s quite a nice experience.
A day would probably not enough to fill your appetite for fun before, but it’s quite likely to be possible now, as the outdoor theme park in Genting officially shut its’ doors in 2013 to make way for the 20th Century Fox Theme Park which will open in 2016!
And we wouldn’t mind coming all the way back here just for that!
As for now, there’s still the indoor theme park for us to enjoy.
I wouldn’t exactly call it fun, but it’s a pretty treat for the eyes with all the neon lights and gaudy colors. I wouldn’t come here for the rides, but just soaking in the atmosphere here does it for me.
Getting inside Resorts World Genting is even entertaining as it features huge replicas of famous world structures like Eiffel tower of Paris, London’s Big Ben, the Venetian Cruise, Vietnam’s shophouses, a Ripley’s Believe or not coupled together with a walk-through haunted house and of course famous monuments like the Statue of Liberty standing with all its glory while another rides a motorbike (that would be how Mother Liberty got her independence; Dinosaurs, Optimus Prime, an Oscar statue and even replicas of Superman & Hulk!
Oh, and needless to say there’s the Petronas Towers too, which is the iconic landmark in Malaysia. That once used to be the the tallest building in the world, years ago. Please note the one here in Genting is just another replica, but you get the point, yeaah?
Some even say that Genting Highlands is the wholesome version of sin city; Las Vegas, although, sinner or saint, this place suits anybody well.
So, other than the rides and attractions located in the First World Indoor Theme Park, there’s also SnowWorld, Sky Venture, Genting Bowl, Vision City and Fantasy World Video Games Park!
