We’re in Fukui!
The capital of Fukui prefecture is Fukui City.
The entire area surrounding and consisting Fukui is one of the least populated places in Japan.
Fukui prefecture is also one of the least populated prefectures of Japan
This city is so empty, one would think Dinosaurs live here…
Ok…They did actually, but not anymore.
Hence, the prefecture of Fukui is also known as “Dinosaur City”.
The reason for this is, at Kitadani Dinosaur Quarry on the Sugiyama River, within the city limits of Katsuyama, has yielded the fossils; Fukuiraptor Kitadaniensis and Fukuisaurus Tetoriensis as well as an unnamed Dromaeosaurid and a new sauropod.
If you noticed, “Fukuiraptor Kitadaniensis”; Fukuiraptor of the ferocious Raptor species – was named after this prefecture: Fukui.
Proof of the coexistence of Pterosaurs and birds, in the form of commingled tracks, were also found here.
BTW, Katsuyama is another small city, also located in Fukui Prefecture, Japan.
The reason we’re here today…guess why??
What did you guess??
We’re here to see some Dinosaurs today!
(No prizes for guessing correctly!) =P
We will be visiting the Fukui Prefectural Dinosaur Museum, so stay tuned for the next upcoming post!
